You know when you've made it as a sci-fi/horror icon after you've graced the cover of the immortal and now legendary magazine FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND, and thats just what happened to BATTLESTAR GALACTICA with the November 1978 issue 149 cover and feature.

CLASSIC ART: 'THE LIVING LEGEND'

Stunning art for the novelisation of one of my all-time favourite Classic GALACTICA adventures: The Living Legend. I vividly recall my excitement at getting it as a kid- a birthday present from my mum via the sadly now long defunct Dark They Were and Golden Eyed comic/fantasy bookshop. What was interesting for me was, at that time in 1980/81, the UK's ITV channel (within its Thames Television region for London) would not air the original two-part version of the story in its premiere terrestrial run. Instead, for reasons unknown, showing the theatrical compilation of MISSION GALACTICA: THE CYLON ATTACK in its place, and as a two-parter, plus, bizarrely, right after the series had concluded with The Hand of God. Eventually reading it, the book made me aware of Legend's final part structural differences and I really wanted to see it. It wouldn't be until the nineties, however, and when the full series arrived in satellite repeats on the SKY TV network, that my wish finally came true...

CLASSIC ART: THE FIRST WARRIORS!

Right from the series launcher, Adama and Tigh had been established as friends and warrior fighter pilots who had fought the Cylon tyranny for a very long time. Sadly, this wasn't developed much further in the series, but at least we had this classic MARVEL COMICS story to fill in some of the history blanks, for a duo tale involving prejudice and robots on the Twelve Colonies world of Scorpia.

CLASSIC IMAGE: JUST ANOTHER ADVENTURE...

US science fiction series of the early to mid-seventies were often plagued with annoying kids, but I always enjoyed little Noah Hathaway's performance as Boxey in GALACTICA. He and Muffey the robot daggit were always getting into scrapes but it was never anything too cringe-worthy, and they were especially good together in the pilot episode and the disaster movie homage that was Fire in Space.
