CLASSIC IMAGE: STARBUCK GOES SIGHT SEEING!

He may be imprisoned on a far off prison colony bizarrely still holding people hostage for the crimes of their ancestors, but that doesn't stop the fun-seeking Starbuck from enjoying the fine company of the enchanting gypsy-esque criminal Adultress 58 (Arlene Matrel - aka Tasha Martel), in these fun publicity images for one of the earliest shot Galactica series episodes, The Long Patrol.

CLASSIC IMAGE: HAVE SPACESHIP WILL TRAVEL...

That criminal descendant Robber's spaceship isn't the most attractive vehicle to escape a penal colony in, but the battered freighter soon proves worthy enough for the task. And even more so when poor Starbuck is forced to use it when his own sleek recon Viper is stolen. An interesting image of the full-size prop craft on the Universal outdoor backlot, during filming of The Long Patrol

CLASSIC IMAGE: MAKING A STAND!

Tracking the mystery foe that has commandeered Starbuck's special recon viper to a far off moon, and with their friend possibly slain, Captain Apollo and Lt. Boomer spring to resolute action when ambushed in an abandoned village. A memorable scene from The Long Patrol.

CLASSIC IMAGE: THE HAPPY WARRIORS!

They're normally seen and partaking in such serious moments on the Galactica bridge as Commander Adama and Colonel Tigh, so any chance to see Lorne Greene and Terry Carter having fun between filming, as seen with The Long Patrol, is always welcome.

A DIFFERENT SHAPE TO CRIME AND PUNISHMENT!

When you are stuck in an intergalactic prison for life with generational inmates that look like the stunning Tasha Martel (best known in sci-fi circles as Arlene Martel, playing the logical and deadly wife-to-be for Spock in Classic Star Trek episode Amok Time), seen in Galactica as prisoner Adulteress 58, would escape really be immediately warranted?

A rare posed image of the exotic actress from the popular comedy drama episode, The Long Patrol.

CLASSIC IMAGE: THE 'STARCHASER' AWAITS...

It would normally be a routine patrol but things are different for Starbuck this time, volunteering the chance to pilot a new experimental Viper with greater speed (known as Starchaser on its nose side), and housing a computer with an attitude - CORA, as the Galactica heads further out from the once colony worlds, in a great moment from comedy adventure, The Long Patrol.

For years, who knew the Viper had a name, until a keen Classic Galactica Facebook group fan spotted it on HD Blu-ray. Well spotted!

CLASSIC IMAGE: BOOTLEG BOTHER!

His unique Recon Viper stolen, Starbuck has now been captured by strange prison wardens and considered a Bootlegger, imprisoned on a generational penal colony on the planet Proetus long since abandoned by the Twelve Colonies, in a memorable sequence from the light-hearted adventure, The Long Patrol.

CLASSIC IMAGE: DOUBLE DINING, DOUBLE LOVING!

Always on the move, Starbuck's unexpected double date with both Athena and Cassiopeia aboard the Rising Star luxury liner yields unexpected problems but also lots of fun light comedy for the three characters, in this fun opening to The Long Patrol

Interestingly, in the episode's Deleted Scenes released on Blu-ray, Cassie is still a designated Socialator  and not yet a Med-Tech. When she later appears on the Galactica bridge to see Athena, her beauty in this unique job position catches all the attention of the male bridge crew! This indicates that The Long Patrol was originally shot in production order between The Gun On Ice Planet Zero and before Lost Planet of the Gods, where Cassie, having now survived the Ovion food mine (originally eaten in the pilot), has started her new position of Med-Tech (as revealed in a deleted scene with Apollo from Lost Planet).

BEHIND THE SCENES: RECON MAN!

From The Long Patrol, a lovely sketch from the series costume designer Jean-Pierre Dorleac for what would become Starbuck's Recon Viper One costume, an item which sold in auction a few years back, and notably carried along with a signature from Dirk Benedict himself!

CLASSIC MERCHANDISE: THE VHS YEARS!

Remember the days of VHS? Well, Classic GALACTICA soon proved a worthy addition to the ranks of film and TV releases back in the nineties (and in Hi-FI sound too!), at a time when such things were done on a single episode basis in the US, as exemplified here with The Long Patrol. The UK releases were different by the late nineties, with two on each release.

CLASSIC IMAGE: ALL SMILES FOR STARBUCK!

On the Galactica bridge, Cassiopeia helps Athena decrypt an old Arian merchant smuggling code-a clue that may help save Starbuck's life-in The Long Patrol.

UPDATED (6/18): Interestingly, this episode must have been written for Cassiopeia before it was decided her resurrected character would be a Med-Tech for Lost Planet of the Gods (which was filmed second after Gun on Ice Planet Zero)- a deleted scene from The Long Patrol sees her with Starbuck on the Rising Star in which she still refers to herself as being a Socialator. In another deleted scene from the episode, Cassie literally turns the heads of all the male bridge crew including Rigel, Tigh and Adama when she goes to see Athena. These two scenes can be found on the Galactica series Blu-ray set.

BEHIND THE SCENES: DREAMS TURNED REALITY

On location handling effects photography linked to the GALACTICA weekly series episode The Long Patrol, special effects icon-to-be Richard Edlund surveys the area.
