ON THE BRIDGE!

Its a busy time on the Galactica bridge as its main command officers confer on their ongoing flight with the Cylons. I assume that this must be from the filming of Gun on Ice Planet Zero rather than the pilot episode (unless its a deleted scene).

CLASSIC IMAGE: ATHENA AND ME!

Back in the day, Starlog magazine did a lovely interview with the glorious Maren Jensen during the start of her time working on Galactica, and her hopes for the future. Here are a few of the outtake images of the ever-lovely actress from the posed Universal Studios/ABC TV publicity shoot that the magazine was originally given access to.

A 'GALACTICA' HEROINE STRIKES THE POSE!

It's been far too long since we've had a gorgeous posed picture of the beautiful Maren Jensen on the site, and I'm sure we're all getting intense withdrawal symptoms in the process. So, situation rectified with this lovely promo shot from 1978!

'ICE PLANET ZERO' AT 45: YOU WANT ME TO GET THESE PEOPLE?

Having received the computer selected list of 'specialists' needed for the mission to Arcta, a surprised Starbuck re-confirms the decision with Commander Adama. Surely the fleet's survival shouldn't depend upon the skills of "a band of murderers and cutthroats!"

Starbuck gives Boomer some bad news about the recruitment list!

Great behind the scenes image of Dirk Benedict on the bridge set.

In a deleted scene, Starbuck later returns to the Galactica bridge to check the final list of team members chosen to go to the surface, of which his name will soon be 'added' to the list. Athena is disappointed that convict Leda has gone on the mission rather than the computer choosing her.

'ICE PLANET ZERO' AT 45: THE CYLON 'WEAPON' REVEALED!

Returned to the Galactica with vital scans on the Cylon's new and deadly weapon, our heroes, including a frustrated Starbuck (angry about not being able to rescue Cree), assemble on the bridge to work out a plan of survival and attack. Adama concludes that a team must ultimately be assembled via computer selection to destroy the pulsar before the weapon can be used on the approaching Colonial Fleet and the Galactica (capable of being destroyed by it in a single pulse, no less), whose herding into the quadrant by the Cylons has now been ominously confirmed...

Assessing the telemetry information on the super weapon.

An analysis of the aerial footage and the weapon begins...

A terrific posed publicity image for the scene.

'ICE PLANET ZERO' AT 45: HERDED TO WHERE?

On the Galactica bridge, Commander Adama (Lorne Greene) confers with his trusted aides, daughter Athena (Maren Jensen) and Colonel Tigh (Terry Carter) on his instincts that, with their recent attacks, the Cylons are herding the Galactica specifically into a nearby quadrant - a supposed 'safe passage'. But why?

Two lovely on-set posed publicity images taken for the story of Greene and Jensen.

CLASSIC ART: THE ARTISTRY OF ATHENA

She looks amazing in reality, and just as stunning in artistic form too. Maren Jensen and Athena- a match made in Galactica heaven!

Beyond the heavens and back here on Earth, the ever-lovely Maren Jensen, a true entrepreneur, has just launched a new type of healthy eating protein bar that's bound to be another well-deserved commercial success for her: Who We Are - Glow Beauty Fuel

CLASSIC IMAGE: AFTER THE ATTACK...

With the fires on the Galactica bridge temporarily out, and Baltar's immense Cylon Raider attack force on the run from Commander Cain's genuinely surprising appearance, Adama confers with his old friend on a new rendezvous, so as to discuss the fleet's future survival, in a rare-ish image from The Living Legend, Part One.

The time has yet again flown by since we last had an amazing spotlight image of that Galactican beauty Athena, as played by the ever-lovely Maren Jensen. So, situation rectified!

CLASSIC IMAGE: A FAMILY OF WARRIORS!

Could a seventies sci-fi series possible have had a more attractive family trio of heroes and role models than Commander Adama and his children, Athena and Apollo? They're seen here in this terrific posed publicity shot, one of many, taken between the filming of the original pilot and Gun on Ice Planet Zero, and on the Imperious Leader's set no less, now more colourfully lit for photographic purposes.

CLASSIC IMAGE: READY FOR ACTION!

She's already a top-class Shuttle pilot, now Athena will go on to become a badass, super-hot Viper pilot. But first she has to conquer the heavy-duty flight simulator training, in this memorable moment from Lost Planet of the Gods part one.

CLASSIC ART: THE ENDURING SAGA...

Great fan art of the enduring heroes and villains of the Glen A. Larson created classic series. It looks like a new movie (from the talented Simon Kinberg) and separate TV series are on the way (then again, we've heard all this before, haven't we?), but they'll never beat the original for its epic sense of space adventure and unique galactic 'family' spirit.

Great art by Neil Davies.

A pleasant look back at the series:

CLASSIC ART: THE CONTINUING JOURNEY...

Art by Luis Royo.

Our Colonial heroes in Apollo, Starbuck and Athena must boldly lead a new generation of Galacticans in the next phase of their search for the mysterious Thirteenth Tribe of Earth, in this great cover art for the start of Richard Hatch's (with Christopher Golden) hugely enjoyable series of all-new original adventures for Glen A. Larson's saga, which started their publishing cycle from 1998 onwards. The opening two books (Armageddon and Warhawk), in particular, were certainly great reads.

CLASSIC IMAGE: ATHENA ON WATCH!

Athena is clearly looking for someone on the Galactica bridge, or most likely keeping tabs on that wandering ladies man Starbuck, in this scene taken early on during the series.

CLASSIC ART: CYLON CHALLENGERS!

Our exemplary Galactica sci-fi warriors in Apollo, Starbuck and Athena make for a fine trio against the rising Cylon menace, in this terrific art by Clint Langley, which also has exciting echoes to the classic Star Wars movie posters of 1977.

CLASSIC IMAGE: THE FEMALE FACTOR!

We need very little persuasion to celebrate many of the stunning and capable female Colonial Warriors of the Galactica fleet, as well as the terrific ladies who played them. So this lovely composition from series longtime fan Wiilie T proved another fine blog entry incentive!

CLASSIC ART: MONSTER MAYHEM!

With the expense of the weekly series, there was little money available to create diverse alien creatures on a regular basis. Thankfully, no such problems would arise in the limitless imagination and creativity realms of comic book storytelling, where our Colonial Warrior heroes were taking on all manner of frightening beings, as seen here on the issue 21 cover of one of the classic Marvel comics for Galactica, from 1979. Cover art from Walt Simonson and Klaus Janson.
