HAPPY 40TH UK TV ANNIVERSARY FOR 'GALACTICA'!
Our Colonial heroes pose for a publicity image for the US magazines of 1978, all of whom were heralding the eagerly-awaited arrival of Battlestar Galactica on TV screens - what a busy, fun and exciting time it must have been for everyone behind the scenes as the series neared airdates. In the UK, we had to wait a little longer to see BG, but today, 6th September, forty years ago back in 1980, London's Thames Television regional channel finally started screening the series with a three-part version of Saga of a Star World, on Thursday nights around 7pm-ish,

CLASSIC ART: THE BIG LINE-UP!
Promoting their new season of big-name family entertainment in late 1978, ABC TV commissioned this lovely promo poster for all its new Sunday TV movies to be debuted, of which Battlestar Galactica was a vital part, especially with its opening pilot and Gun on Ice Planet Zero (originally to have been a two-hour movie of the week). The familiar face of Lorne Greene, then more well known for the hit western series Bonanza, was one of the main selling images, with a fearsome Cylon Centurion lingering behind him. Note the Frank Frazetta version of the Galactica above the trio shot, lifted from his poster concept artwork for Gun. Art by C. (M). Wicker.

HAPPY 40TH ANNIVERSARY, 'BATTLESTAR GALACTICA'!
Having recently had the chance to catch the series again on Blu-ray, I have to say that Glen A. Larson's original vision continues to hold up extremely well since its debut in 1978, primarily thanks to the main cast of stars, some highly enjoyable episodes, and first class special effects work.

We hope all the Battlestar Galactica fans worldwide enjoy this special day, and this site wishes to send a big shout out to the past (and hopefully still) fans whose enthusiasm sparked my own into doing this blog a few yahrens back, most notably the UK's The Thirteenth Tribe, which, when I was a member in the noughties, was run by Victoria Haslam (with help from her hubby Robin). I don't know where they are right now, but a big 'Thank You!' to them for their dedication to the classic series and getting their always excellent and informative magazines and club service done for their enthused members.
HAPPY 40TH ANNIVERSARY, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!
