Charting an altogether different look for space-faring fighter aces seen in science fiction TV, yet still keeping visual referencing motifs for generic audiences to understand, the design of the Colonial Viper pilot flight helmets proved a stunning achievement for the original series by the acclaimed and versatile Universal Studios costume designer Jean-Pierre Dorleac, what with their deliberate Egyptian-esque referencing and colouring, and which soon proved a fine compliment to the events witnessed within the visuals of Lost Planet of the Gods, and its revelations of the Twelve Colonies of Mankind.

BEHIND THE SCENES: MODEL PIONEER!


It's a busy day at the Apogee model shop during those halcyon years of 1977/78, as effects industry legend Lorne Peterson is immersed in two ambitious, genre-changing cinematic franchises: Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica, supervising and building the superb varying sized models used for blue screen filming and pyrotechnics across both.

Conclusive proof that, in life and work, you can have too much cake and thoroughly enjoy eating it!
