CLASSIC ART: THE FIRST WARRIORS!

Cover by Richard F. Buckler and Klaus Janson.

Right from the series launcher, Adama and Tigh had been established as friends and warrior fighter pilots who had fought the Cylon tyranny for a very long time. Sadly, this wasn't developed much further in the series, but at least we had this classic MARVEL COMICS story to fill in some of the history blanks, for a duo tale involving prejudice and robots on the Twelve Colonies world of Scorpia.

CLASSIC IMAGE: JUST ANOTHER ADVENTURE...

US science fiction series of the early to mid-seventies were often plagued with annoying kids, but I always enjoyed little Noah Hathaway's performance as Boxey in GALACTICA. He and Muffey the robot daggit were always getting into scrapes but it was never anything too cringe-worthy, and they were especially good together in the pilot episode and the disaster movie homage that was Fire in Space.

CLASSIC IMAGE: RIGHT CYLONS, WRONG EPISODE!

Back in the days when cinemas had imaginative outside movie posters and lobby promos, here's an overseas photo card for the European release of MISSION GALACTICA: THE CYLON ATTACK, a compilation movie of the series episodes Fire in Space and The Living Legend two-parter, though the promotional image they've actually used here is from Gun on Ice Planet Zero!

CLASSIC ART: A MULTITUDE OF ICONS!

Another classic art piece by Mark Daniels/ Sublevel Studios that came out last year in celebrating the series 35th Anniversary. The show's key iconography of Cylons, Colonial Vipers and the Galactica fleet make for great compositions.

CLASSIC IMAGE: FORMULATING STRATEGIES

A pensive Adama listens to the attack plans to secure Cylons tankers outlined by Commander Cain, in this attempt to integrate the rival squadrons of the Battlestars Pegasus and Galactica. A scene from The Living Legend, Part One.

CLASSIC ART: BUBBLE-STAR GALACTICA!

During late 1978, I must have travelled numerous South London news vendors and consumed well over a hundred pieces of pink bubblegum strip within the photo cards series for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, and I still never got the complete set of original cards-there was at least three or four of those white edged photo marvel devils that proved elusive. And, having been a sprightly youth at the time, I never kept any of the pack wrappings, either. So this scan (a US TOPPS cover rather than a UK one- we never had the stickers) at least makes for some compensation in the latter area.

BEHIND THE SCENES: UNLICENSED PARKING!

A Galactica landram makes an impression in one of the car park spaces outside APOGEE's Van Nuys headquarters, in this fun behind the scenes shot from 1978, during filming of Saga of a Star World.
